What is SAUA? 

The Sudanese American Unity Association (SAUA) was officially established in 2016 by members of the Sudanese diaspora in Seattle, Washington. This formation was driven by the increasing need for a cohesive community structure that could provide essential support for Sudanese families, facilitate educational opportunities, and assist with the assimilation process for newly arrived Sudanese immigrants.

The founders recognized that the challenges faced by Sudanese families in Seattle were multifaceted, encompassing social, cultural, and economic aspects. Therefore, their primary objective was to create a comprehensive organization that could address these diverse needs effectively. By bringing together various support services under one umbrella, the SAUA aimed to create a unified and organized community that could better navigate the complexities of life in a new country.

The association's mission extends beyond mere support; it is about fostering a sense of belonging and community among Sudanese Americans in the Seattle area. This includes offering programs and resources that promote cultural preservation, educational advancement, and social integration. From language classes and tutoring for children to job placement assistance and cultural events, the SAUA strives to enhance the quality of life for its members while bridging the gap between Sudanese and American cultures.
